The Castle of Gagliano Castelferrato is placed on a rocky hill (650 mt), the Rock, which overlooks the town.
The name Castelferrato was added in 1862 because the town was dominated by the castle just called “ iron fortress”.
It was built up at the first time in XI century and it got a big importance when Federico II chose it like his private seat. For a few times, infact, it was both the king’s home and a defense against possible plots. History and Legend cover this charming fortress which was both a luxury residence and a military station (263 b. C. ).
Just because escaved in the rock, it resisted for a long time against onrushes of Arab army, also thanks to its strong walls and tower, fosses and cisternes.
Inside the rocky base there also are big architectural ventilation and lighting conductes.
The furniture itself was escaved in the rock.
Many nobles family was here in authority: Centelles, Castello till the fall of feudal era.
