The Brolo Castle
The Brolo Castle, from "brolum", cultivated field in Latin language, is placed on a overhanging rise in front of the sea. Brolo is a small town of about 5000 inhabitants, placed between Milazzo and Cefalù, in province of Messina, on the eastern-North coast of Sicily-Italy. Since the origins (the end of the XI century) the seafaring Brolo village developed about the castle, called "Voab" in Norman epoch, sea fortress in Arab language, for its good position which allow not only an excellent vision on the Tyrrhenian sea and the Aeolian Islands, but also to protect the coast from pirates' raids. The Brolo castle was built for Lancia’s will that was the owner up to the XVIII century. By observing the walls, built after the attacks of the pirates in the XVI century, you can admire the heraldic emblem of this feudal family placed on two access doors. Other important detail is that of the swallow-tail battlement  which surrounds the top of the feudal tower built at the beginning of 1400. The castle undergoed a remarkable rearrangement in 1600 and had a important and strategic trading role between the harbour and the internal Nebrodi mounts. Today the castle is a marquis Lungamarini’s ownership. Of the ancient fortress only the tower and the walls remain.
