The Aragonese Castle of Comiso

The Aragonese  Castle in Comiso was many times modified across the centuries. It’s near to a byzantine baptistery. There are no certain informations about the date of the fabrication; the early historical news, in fact, date back to the XIII century. After the terrible earthquake on 1693, the Earl Baldassarre Naselli, member of an aristocratic family in Comiso, entrusts Michelangelo Canepa the task of rebuilding part of the castle. The genoese artist begins on 1728.  Today the octagonal tower and two lancet portals are preserved as part of the original build. On 1841, in the east side of the castle, a neoclassic theatre was built.
