Chiaramonte's Castle of Naro |

Chiaramonte’s Castle, or Chiaramontano Castle, is in Naro, Agrigento province, rocked on the
summit of a hill anciently called “ Agragante Mount”.
Declared national monument in 1912, the castle built up during the XII century by Chiaramonte, a powerfull family of that age, on the ruins of a previous arab structure.
In 1330 Federico III of Aragona ordered to add to the stronghold a square tower in which he lived. A side of the tower, the western one, shows Aragona’s escutcheon.
On the eastern side, instead, there are two double lancet windows which enlight the “Prince’s Room”, set at the first level of the tower.
High and massive walls characterized the entire structure, while two round and two quadrangular towers are positionated at defence of the fortress.
From the lancet entry we access to the principal court, in which center is a well; here there are the chapel, the stables and militaries lodges.
It has to be visited the salon with a barrel voult.
The castle has been restored many times with the purpose of using a part of it like a museum.
Today only a big wall remain, a round and a square tower, an open cistern sometimes used as a prison and a door of 1300.
